Best Song Choices for the Father Daughter Dance

From 3arf

The father-daughter relationship is a very special one. To every daughter, it is a unique relationship. No one can ever be a substitute for Daddy. And even if a father has more than one daughter, each one of his little girls is sacred.

For these reasons, songs chosen for father-daughter dances should be equally special. The choices are actually almost endless. When choosing a song, think about the participants and their personalities, music preferences, and the setting of the dance. After these categories have been taken into consideration, it becomes easier to narrow down the best song choices.

The song choice doesn't have to be the same as most other dances, if the occasion is just one special dance. A wedding dance or dance for parents at graduation comes to mind. But if the songs are for an actual father-daughter dance involving many fathers and their darling daughters, there are song choices that will be enjoyable for most people.

A wedding father-daughter dance can have a completely unorthodox song choice. In fact, if there is a song that holds a special meaning for both father and daughter, it is probably a better choice than a typical father-daughter song. Suppose the father has always sung "Seven Bridges Road" on the phone to his daughter when he was away on business. Of course, this song is the perfect choice. It will be far more meaningful to both father and daughter than any other song. It doesn't matter if the rest of the guests don't understand. This dance is for the father and daughter and no one else.

There are some great song choices for a father-daughter dance, regardless of the occasion. Here are a few of my favorites:

"I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack

This song will bring tears to everyone's eyes, not just father and daughter. The song won a Grammy award for "Best Country Song" in 2001. The song encourages its listeners to live life to the fullest. The chorus includes the verse "And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance." This is one of the best motivational and sentimental song choices for a father-daughter dance.

"Forever Young" by Rod Stewart

Even though he's famous for being a wild rocker, Rod Stewart can belt out this ballad. In the lyrics, the singer wishes for only the best for his listener. If this song doesn't tug at your heart strings, you have no heart. My favorite verse is "May sunshine and happiness surround you when you're far from home".

"My Wish" by Rascal Flatts

This song has that surreal quality that Rascal Flatts songs seem to possess. It contains beautiful, meaningful lyrics. A father will have a difficult time dancing to this song with his daughter without becoming emotional. It seems to be a combination of "I Hope You Dance" and "Forever Young."

"There Goes My Life" by Kenny Chesney

This song describes how a young man felt trapped when he first became a father and how the baby daughter wrapped him around his little finger. She becomes the center of his universe. The song tells about her as she grows up and the last verse describes her packing for college. This is a very sweet song.

"Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle

This, of course, is the ultimate song for a father-daughter dance. It seems to have been written just for such an occasion as the singer tells about his precious daughter growing up and going away. He laments, "I must have done something right to deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses at night."

So, there you have it. These are some great songs for a father-daughter dance. There are many more. Just start browsing on the internet through song hits from years past and you'll be surprised at how many songs fit the father-daughter theme.
