Best Places to Search for Part Time Jobs for Teens
There are many places that are well suited to a teen looking for a job. Although a lot of places do not look to hire teens, many do. The pay may not be great, but it is a start and can give the teen valuable insight into the working world and a little extra cash for their wallet. The following are some of the best places to search for part time jobs for teens.
Grocery store
Many teens start their work careers in grocery stores. Many grocery stores such as Publix and Winn Dixie hire a lot of teens. Because you are applying at a place that might be used to hiring teens, you might have a better shot of actually getting the job. You could work in the back, stock items, bag groceries, work as a cashier or be in one of the many other jobs they have available. It can be a good start into the working world. Some even go on to become managers and make it a career for them.
Babysitting job
One nice job is to be a babysitter. Many people hire teens to do this job, especially girls. Depending on the child, it could be very easy and even pleasant to be a babysitter. Some people can really make it a steady part time job if they find someone who needs constant help (i.e. from after school until the parents get home at night).
Fast food restaurant
Many teens choose to work at fast food restaurants. They tend to hire a lot of teens, so it might not be too difficult to get a job. Sometimes there are small perks like being able to eat free food. If you have friends who also work there it could be a nice starter job.
Waitress or busboy
Some restaurants will hire teenagers to be waiters, waitresses, busboys or hostesses. This can be a good job because you might make more from tips than you would at other minimum wage jobs. It can be a difficult job, however, and the hours can sometimes get late depending on where you work.
Retail store
Many teenagers work in retail stores such as those at the mall. The mall can be a nice environment for teens since there are so many around. It is usually a fairly easy job and you usually would not have to work much beyond mall hours, which are usually not too bad. If you feel that you might want to go into management or retail as a career then this can also be good experience for that.
