Having any sort of leak in the weather stripping of your vehicle can be a real nuisance, especially if the leak is within your door frame. When applying the new weather strip it is important to place it in the exact spot as the old strip if at all possible. To remove the old strip simply take a pair of pliers and begin to pull it up as you go around. It would be a good idea at this point to check for rust under the stripping, or if you are installing a new strip immediately after the old one then follow the old weather strip with a rag soaked in cleaner to remove any debris that could affect the bond of the new strip.

While some companies who sell the weather stripping materials also sell a sealant to make sure that the new piece of weather stripping holds. Whether this product is prudent to your needs depends upon how snugly your new piece of weather stripping applied to the groove inside of the door frame, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to make the weather stripping a bit more durable by using an adhesive. Before considering the task complete, go around the weather stripping and make sure that it is all properly seated and that there are no ripples or bulges for these may effect the fit of the door. If you used an adhesive to bond the stripping wait the appropriate drying time, then test fit the door to make sure they fit snugly against the new weather stripping.

What may seem to be a simply touch-up on a car, the installation of new weather stripping greatly increases the efficiency of the car's climate control system by keeping both the warm air in during the winter and keeping the cooler air inside during the summer. Installing new weatherstripping in a vintage automobile or old muscle car greatly improves the look of the vehicle and gives it an even closer resemblance to that of a showroom exhibit.
