Auto Glass Window Replacement Tips

From 3arf

Now I've had a few windows broken out of my cars in my life. The first happened around 11 years ago when the guy I was seeing got ticked off and threw a brick through my passenger side window. It was a cold November Saturday, the weekend of the big rivalry game, the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines. I had no idea what I was going to do. I started calling car dealers in our area. I finally found one that was open. I cleaned the backseat the best I could since my daughters had to ride back there. I threw a blanket on the seat, bundled the girls, loaded them in and took them to their grandparents house. Man was that ever a cold ride. I didn't think I would make it but I did. The people were really nice even though it would cost me an arm and leg to have it fixed by them. They vacuumed my car and covered up the window with plastic.

After they were finished I stopped by a local burger establishment I like to frequent and picked up a burger. I then went home just in time for the game. I cheered for my team, the Wolverines. At least my team kicked butt and with the win would go on to the Rose Bowl. He couldn't take that away from me.

Monday morning I was on the phone(while he slept) getting estimates for a window from car dealers and glass companies in town. Things weren't looking good because all of the prices were too high. The jerk had no money. His boss was willing to give him an advance of $150. I knew I wasn't paying. All of a sudden a commercial came on the television about an establishment that came to your house and replaced the glass where your vehicle was parked. I started calling and found one for under $100. Perfect! My window was fixed. Now I could go cruising in my convertible again.

The second time happened back in September on Labor Day weekend. My daughter and I had gone to Wal-Mart. The window was frosty so I turned on the defrost. We went in, did our thing and came back out. I thought the window was icy but went on home. I parked the car and went on to bed. The next morning I was outside talking to my fiancee when I noticed a crack along the side of the rear window. He noticed one on the other side of the car at the same time. He walked behind the car and said "Your window is shattered in a million pieces!" I thought someone at the store smashed it because I drove a #8 car. He kept checking and decided it came from inside. The defroster malfunctioned and blew out the window.

Back to the phone book I went. This time I didn't fool with the car dealers. I found a company willing to come to my house on Labor Day. I made an appointment but kept on calling just to see if I could get a better deal. Another company jumped at the chance to beat my previous offer. They couldn't come until Tuesday but I didn't care because I didn't have anywhere to go. The guy was really nice and liked my car. He did a Great job! He charged me under $250 for installation, parts, a lifetime warranty and he cleaned up. Considering that window was $500, I think I made a good deal.

My advice would be, if you have a lot of money then go to a car dealer or glass company. If you would like to save money and not get glass in your derriere then call the mobile glass replacement companies. They can be found in the yellow pages of your local phone book under Glass- Auto, Plate, Window, Etc. The added plus is the numbers are toll free. Happy replacing and good luck!
