Are Minivans Cool or Uncool – Cool
Many years ago when I was raising my family there were no minivans. We started ouout with a regular four door sedan. As our family grew we purchased a nine passenger station wagon. Yes, it was big. About the length of an eighteen wheeler. Well, maybe not quite that big but it was BIG.
When my daughter married and started her family, they started out with a compact car. By the time baby number three came along it was time for something with more room They were now living a state away from all the rest of the family and wanted something that would be comfortable for everyone to travel.
I suggested a minivan and helped them shop for one. It was very nice and had almost all the options you could get at that time. It seemed to be just the thing for a growing, active. young family.
Shortly after they made tis purchase, one of the Sunday comics showed a strip of a man sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle. The reader was viewing the man through the drivers window. Each box showed the man in a different position. An arm draped over the door. A foot up on the dash. Each block was something different. Finally, you get to the last box and the caption says "It's hard to look cool in a minivan."
Of course, we all laughed as we thought of my handsome son-in-law behind the wheel of his minivan. That was almost twelve years ago and minivans have changed a great deal now. Either minivans changed or the definition of cool changed.
Getting in the drivers side of a minivan today is like getting into a portable living room. The seat is a comfortable as my favorite recliner. The stereo systems are awesome. You can play CD's, AM/FM radio, or if you prefer satiate radio. You have climate control so no matter what the season, you set the temperature for what you like. What's not cool about that?
The seats behind the driver can be equipped with DVD players and game hook-ups. They can be folded, tilted, or tipped to whatever position you desire. Plus doors and windows open at a push of a button. Tell me that's not cool.
Beside all that the third row seat can be dropped into the floor making lots of room for the families Fido to go along in as much comfort as his masters. Or leave Fido at home and shop until your drop. You'll be amazed at all you can fit in a minivan.
Like I said, unless the word cool means something else today, I don't know of a cooler vehicle on the road today then he MINIVAN.
