Aprilia Rs

From 3arf

As always when you are about to spend a ridiculous sum of money you want to be sure what you are buying is really suited to you. When purchasing you first motorbike it is important to take into acount these factors.

1. How much you are willing to spend on the bike. Not only to buy it but for insurance and whatever else you need to do. for example, servicing, petrol, oil

2. What bike is best suited for you, If you fancy yourself as a bit of a rossi then theres no point in looking at choppers and custom bikes.

3. How skilled you are as a rider, some motorbikes are aggressive mean and wont think twice before spewing you up all over the tarmac.

Now then if you are here because you want to find out about the Aprilia RS 50, 125 and 250's then I wont dissapoint!

If you are a keen 16 year old who is to ashamed to buy a scooter and has a steady income then the rs50 is somewhere good to start. Its lack of aggression (being only a 50) but bigger bike looks makes it a heavenly toy to have at just 16. However the drawbacks are that it is a very unreliable 2 stroke if not maintained properly, It is advised that if you or a family member know nothing about motorbikes then dont get it as these bikes require a lot of work. The speed of the bike is something the RS' is renowned for. That 50 will anhialate all scooters however overtaking and racing bigger bikes is not really advised.Lets go up a stage then to the RS 125 Most riders are ex rs 50 riders or ex honda cbr125 riders who have gotten bored of the lack of power in their smaller bike. Although the RS 125 is a powerful bike it does not compare to 600's or to be honest 250's. It is a bike that has fast accleration, an aggressive powerband that will take inexperienced riders by surprise and a reasonable top speed ( or an amazing top speed for a 125cc bike )dont be fooled by myth the RS125 is not a rocket ship! When owning one of these bikes you probably wont own any cash it happily guzzles fuel and 2 stroke oil and it needs constant engine repairs as it is 2 stroke which generally means unreliability. Also they are the most commonly stolen bike so keep this italian piece of art chained all the time or it will be in the back of someone else's van. Insurance on this bike is also a crippler I know my quote for this bike was 1200. So naturally I found a more suitable bike for my wallet.RS250 Now this is a real bike. Most suited however to those who have passed their full motorbike test as it is very aggressive, a friend of mine has even written one off. However dont let this dissuade you from this 55bhp monster 2 stroke. It handles like a dream and screams for more constantly as you redline every gear. However as with the other RS' it does love to eat your wallet!

Next is to top selling 125 ever. The reliable Honda four stroke that costs 2000 new and about 700 on insurance for your first year. You gussed it it's the CBR125. This bike is just a shadow of its Daddy the CBR 600 and the Fireblade but its a good looking piece of machinery that will get you from A to B hassle free and very economically. This was my first bike and for the first year i loved it. It has just the right amount of speed and acceleration to give you a thrill but to keep you safe and it handles better than any other 125. It does look small though and the petrol tank only holds a measly 10 litres however this will last a long time. The seat however is very thin it feels like you are astride a pencil most of the time and the forward footrests makes you feel like a scooter rider. So basically if you want a cheap first bike to get road experience this is what you want. It also comes in some very snazzy colours including repsol honda for all those Nicky/pedrosa fans out there

Other bikes Worth looking at are the Yamaha YZF-R, Gilera and derbiIf you want any information on classics or 125 cc choppers then look somewhere else as I have had no experience on those bikes.
