Afraid Career Goals

From 3arf

People have goals and career aspirations from a young age.   Many dream of making it big in the career world and leading the American dream. Unfortunately only very few people ever get to have this dream as many people have to look at the reality of the situation and realise that it takes a lot to get to where they want to.

Here are some reasons as to why people are afraid to strive for their dream career:

People dream big but unfortunately many are afraid of failure. Many do not understand that failure is a stepping stone to success and sometimes one has to wait for good things. This is true when an individual aspires to great heights to succeed in his/her career. The corporate world is a cut throat industry and only the strong minded can survive. One can has to be very positive and have nerves of steel to keep trying and endure every disappointment and failure. The negativity and fear attached to failing deters many individuals from reaching their career goals.

Many people look for security in their jobs. One has to dive into insecurity when striving to reach their career goals. This may mean relocating, accepting a new job with better training opportunities or starting their own business. Stepping into insecurity can also mean learning a new skill or becoming a full time student which means the individual may have to sacrifice an income for a while until he/she gains the additional qualification. The individual may also be in hi/her comfort zone and have a family to support so switching jobs may be seen as taking a walk into the unknown. People with financial responsibilities cannot afford to leave work or swtich jobs often and this may cause them to think twice about striving to achieve their own career goals as there is a big element of risk attached to this. Looking at today's socio- economic climate people are advised to stay in their current jobs if they have security and not attempt to take many risks as the results may prove disastrous.

Age is a major factor when considering why people are afraid to strive for their career goals. The older an individual gets the harder he/she may find it to compete with younger, focused and more energetic individuals who are more aware of the market trends in business today.

People may have also studied a field which is totally unrelated to their present job, but may be afraid to enter the new field as they may have to start on a lower salary scale or there may be huge risk involved in changing careers.
