Affect your Career Choice Career Career Path Career Choice

From 3arf

When you have to make a decision about the career path you should follow, friends and family will be more than eager to tell you what they think. Often enough, they become too pushy and aggressive that they manage to guide you in the direction they want. When that happens, you no longer have a say in the decision. The decision has already made up for you and you simply have to stick  with it.

Why you shouldn't let other people's opinions affect your career choice

1. You deprive yourself of the opportunity to make your dreams a reality.

When you let other people affect your career choice, you deprive yourself of the opportunity to make your dreams a reality. There is a reason why you always dreamt of becoming an actor or a singer. You may  have a natural talent for arts. Arts may give you the chance to express yourself like nothing else. By denying them, you essentially forbid yourself to express feelings and thoughts in the proper way. After  a while, all those feelings and thoughts that are bottled up inside of you, will come out aggressively, looking for an outlet that may not be a healthy one.

2. You will have many regrets

By allowing others to guide you in the career path they think is right for you, you will end up having too many regrets. You may wake up one day ready to change everything, only to find out that it is too late.  You may realize that all those years, you made  the wrong career choices lived the wrong life, and unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to make up for it. Realising at the age of 45 that you should have become an actor instead of an accountant will be too painful to accept, as it will be too late to pursue the career of your dreams.

3. You have no control of your life

By allowing others to choose your career, you automatically lose control of your life. You no longer have the emotional strength that is necessary in order to be able to think things through and evaluate people and situations objectively. You are essentially at the mercy of others who know best what you need to do with your life. By the time you realize you made a big mistake, it will be too late to try to regain control of your life. You will have gotten so used to that situation, that even if you want to with all your heart, standing on your own feet will be too difficult.

When it comes to your career, you should be the only one making the important decisions.Listening to others is not bad, provided you make the final decision by yourself. Only you know what you want the most and what your strengths and capabilities are.
