Advantage of Knowing a second Language
Let’s face the fact, even though English is the universal language there are still added ease if one can speak a second language. Having a second language is like having another tool to communicate effectively and added channel of success.
Not knowing a second language can limit your career because now the world economy does not concentrate in the West anymore. Notice the trending of economy is becoming powerful in Asia where English is not the majority’s first language. Although Asian countries are really trying hard to educate its people to learn English, its first language is still widely used in business correspondents. If an individual can speak that second language, imagine how the exchange of communication flow in a smooth way. This will benefit the organization and benefit the talented individual for linking that gap in communication; it’s career boost.
Often times when a certain project has so many diverse members who barely speak English, the usual language barrier problems occur. The scenario is the same with English speakers who doesn’t know any second language and the Non-English speakers who may know another language but poor in English. There is wide gap between the two groups and information transmission may be disrupted in any forms. Thus, this is how not knowing a second language can limit your career. Speaking a second, third, fourth or being a polyglot is a talent that needs to be properly compensated. It’s a talent that is not natural but learnt with a series of studies and practical applications.
