Acura Integra Rsx History
The Acura Integra, also known as the Honda Integra outside of the US is one of the best selling Acura’s of all time. It is known as one of the sportier Acura’s and one of the least expensive ones, and is a very popular used car, even to this day. The car has been manufactured from 1985-2006. The car became more popular in the later generations, the first generation being produced from 1986-1989 as a type of spin off of the Honda Civic.
The second generation of the Acura Integra was produced from 1989-1993. This generation was slightly more popular, but still not quite as popular as the third generation Integra in the United States. The second generation of the Acura Integra was the last version of the car sold without airbags in the United States, where seat belts were used instead. This was also the first generation to have leather seats as an option, a different engine as the previous version, and had the Acura and Integra , as well as the “A” for Acura emblems on the car and on the front hood.
1994 was when the third generation Integra was released in the United States, 1993 in Japan. This is by far one of the most popular generations, and is commonly seen on the road, and a popular used car, as it is affordable, reliable, and stylish. It is also a very commonly customized car, and built for both looks and performance modifications. In 1995 the Type R model was released in Japan, and 1997 elsewhere. The Type R had a similar engine to the GSR model, and had some decent amount of power and torque. This model is famous for the unusual headlights, which had the small circles on either side of the hood. In 1998 Acura spiced up the Integra a little bit, making the headlights a little larger, a slightly changed front and back bumper, and revised taillights that were all red. This third generation was produced from 1998-2001, before being discontinued in the United States.
The fourth generation Acura Integra was produced from 2001-2006, but is better known as the Acura RSX. It has a complete redesign, and is actually a little smaller, but got better reviews than the previous design Integra’s. The Acura Integra/RSX was eventually discontinued after 2006, with Acura releasing a statement that the coupe market is shrinking. Acura was also looking to move in a different direction, and maintain a more luxury car outlook. A similar car still offered today by Honda would be the Civic SI.
