Abuse of Sales Clerks
Working in the retail industry many sales clerks will tell you it's almost like walking into a minefield without a map. With the way many people who enter a store odds are that some are going to be more irritable than others. This is a fact of life for the millions who work as a sales clerk in supermarkets, department stores and specialty shops.
There are many customers that a sales clerk comes into contact with on a daily basis they range from people who may be wealthier to people who are struggling to make ends meet. These people all act differently, and there are some that the sales clerk may at the end of the day pray that they never see the person again.
To start off you want to know what kind of customers are there. To be honest there are to many to list so we will do the most common ones.
First there are the regular customers these people are generally kind, and return on a normal basis they do there shopping, and get to know the people at the store. They also tend to be able to get better deals as some clerks find it easier to tell them when things will go on sale. Their disposition is a laid back talkative attitude, and usually will converse with the clerks as they shop.
Next you have the snobby customers. These customers usually walk in with an attitude of superiority over every one else in the store including other customers. They are impatient ,and rude. They will talk down to clerks, and if with someone else that came with them, other customers, or people that they do not see as a human which in most cases is everybody. Many business types fall into this category, and usually they come equipped with cellphone in hand, and expect everyone's attention.
Then you have the people with unruly children. These people usually bring in their children who are throwing tantrums They snap at every one as if their children had already trampled their last nerve.
Then there are the fashion emergencies. These people will walk into public wearing anything that should not be. These range from kids wearing clothes they have no business wearing to overweight women wearing a tube top that is about to snap like a rubber band. In my personal experience on this is a woman who I could venture to say was close to 300 pounds, is short wearing a tube top where the fabric was showing transparency it was stretched so far. Also you see people walking in wearing pajamas these are not clothes you wear out in public people please have some common decency.
Finally, you have Satan's spawn customers. These people are the reason you see a lot of people quit, or in some cases appear in newspapers. They will holler, curse and in some cases use racial slurs to clerks. These people will then demand to see the manager who they will treat politely, but anyone else they treat like dogs. These are the kind of people that you want to beat repeatedly with a baseball bat. In personal experience I was lucky to have a manager on the next aisle over when this person started on me for asking if I might be of service. This person was also later in the newspaper as he was hauled off to jail due to his behavior after he refused to leave the store when asked, and tried to stab the officer when he arrived. .
In all, the best way to explain is working in retail is like walking into a minefield without a map. Because sales clerks can get a lot of problems from people in general.
