A Mothers Toast to the Happy Couple
When one of your children has decided they have found that one person they wish to spend the rest of their life with, all the wonderful fun begins. So many things to plan, so many things to consider venue for the wedding and reception, colors, bridesmaids and groomsmen, foods, invitations the list is unending. Parents on both sides of the family have much to do in helping their children make these decisions while enjoying the process, with the least amount of stress. After most of the planning is in the works, it is time for the parents to get themselves ready for the big day.
One thing that is very important for the mother to consider is the mothers toast, the words she selects to let this brand new couple know how she truly feels about their union. A toast from the mother is something the bride will always remember, maybe not the exact words that were spoken but the feeling that it brings. Grooms will also remember, for themselves and for the bride. Mothers need to speak from the heart, for the impression she leaves on this day will be lasting.
We mothers need to take the time to choose these words wisely. The toast can be short or long, in the form of a poem, a short story or just a few words of love and support. The wedding will be a joyous occasion and your words should reflect that. Where and how a toast is given should also be considered. Then, when the day finally arrives, just sit back and enjoy the celebration, you have earned it.
I would like to share with you the toast I gave at my daughter's wedding. This was a private toast just to the couple, outside under a grape arbor, which made it a very special moment just between us.
Intuitively she bends like the willow
She gently flows like water
Still young and wild in her womanhood
This spirit of light, my daughter
Blessings surround her
Her path full of twists and turns
May her journey be endless
Standing strong in who she is
Another spirit she has chosen
To walk the path with her
Equals in the heart of the mother
Together hand in hand
He is blessed as she is
Full of brightness and of love
Adventure in his nature
This union will stand strong
The love intended in this action
May it deepen, may it grow
Sharing all the mysteries and magic
Two souls can ever know
