ALT-8 Diy Automotive Repair how to Change a Flat Tire

From 3arf

Changing a flat tire-

1)make sure the car is in a safe location- no point getting killed on the side of the road while changing a tire- get the car off the road onto the verge- as far away from the traffic as you can.

2)Apply the park brake- even on a flat surface- the park brake is essential in holding the car in place

3)remove all the tools and the spare wheel from the boot and lay out beside the car- better to have all the tools than to have to go fishing while the car is jacked up on 3 wheels!

4)Get everyone out of the car- you don't want sudden movements upsetting the balance of the car while the wheel is off.

5)Remove the hub cap with a screw driver or tire iron- this can be done by inserting the pointy end behind the hubcap at the edge of the tire/hubcap. If your car has mag wheels you may not need to do this- depending on the design.

6)Loosen the nuts on the wheel half a turn or so while the car has its weight on the wheel- this makes it easier to get the nuts undone as you don't have to deal with the wheel spinning as you turn.

7)Insert the Jack into the car body or on the mounting point as per owners manual specs- usually this is just behind the front wheel or just in front of the back wheel.

8)Lift the car with the jack until the wheel has clearance all the way underneath it.

9)Lift the wheel off the hub and lay it under the edge of the car. This will act as protection if th4e jack drops or the car falls.

10)put the new space wheel on the car- put the nuts back on, and tighten slowly.

11)lower the car back onto the road before fully tightening the nuts- and remember to tighten in a star formation- opposite sides- never tighten the nuts in a clockwise or anti-clockwise formation as the wheel could be incorrectly aligned by doing this.
