ALT-7 Realistic new Years Resolutions for a better Life

From 3arf

Every New Year presents an opportunity for anyone to have a fresh start. There is an aura of hope that lingers after all the revelry as the clock strikes midnight. It drives most people to thinking of things to achieve for the year.  There is that inner urge to change something or to do something new. Resolutions come in many forms. It can be financial: “I promise to save money this year." It can be physical: “My New Year's resolution is to lose 10 pounds.”  Even if these are simple goals, it can be unrealistic. One can be still end up frustrated by the end of the week after declaring such resolutions.  As much as it is tempting to ditch making resolutions altogether, here are some alternative resolutions that might work for you:Buy a pedometerThe most popular resolution every year for most people is to start losing weight by exercising. Some ventured going to the gym- an activity that usually pans out after a few sessions. Dr. Oz in an episode on Oprah mentioned that one just needs to get the body moving. To calculate how much "movement" a person needs in a day, all that is needed to is walk 10,000 steps a day. To be able to count your steps, one needs a pedometer. Before you start aiming for the 10,000 steps, resolve first to buy that pedometer. Some pedometers still work by placing it in your bag. In that way, shopping is exercising.Rekindle friendship with one friendIn the age of the Internet and social networking sites, it is easy to be friends with anyone but the friendship may not be as deep as the ones done face to face where relationships are cultivated by giving time and exerting effort into the friendship. Getting to know a new person is ideal but it is more achievable and comfortable to befriend old friends. There is already a shared experience where both parties can start a conversation and know what activities are enjoyed by both. There is also a possibility to gain a tight network when the friendship extends to friends of friends.  This can enhance one's social life and expand one's social network.Plant somethingA small change in your living space, office or bedroom can change your mood in a positive way. Bringing a plant to your office can brighten up your workspace. Not only can it help beautify the place, it is good for your health as it provide oxygen circulation. Get rid of those plastic flowers in your living room. Instead, get an indoor plant to add some greenery to your home.  If there is still a space in your backyard, plant a tree. It will give you shade during summer time.  Trees can be homes for chirping birds which brings sweet and sunny tunes in the morning.VolunteerThere is a sense of fulfillment in helping others. It is also a way to meet people, gain work experience, discover your own talents and develop new skills. Volunteering your time in soup kitchens, fund raising activities or in any charitable organizations makes living worthwhile. It provides meaning to life, a sense of purpose and self-worth. There is an inner pleasure and happiness when you see that people's lives are better and you are partly responsible in making it possible.Having smaller resolutions is easier to achieve. It is a great motivator to try something more when one resolution is achieved and ticked off your list. Even a simple resolution can bring the same personal fulfillment as the big ones.  When you think about it, resolutions are usually made to make one's life better. That goal can't be achieved when one spends the coming year obsessing over it or wallowing over unfulfilled promises. The best thing to resolve within yourself is live your life the best way you know how and just embrace what ever you have. Just seize the day!
