ALT-6 Motorcyclists should always Wear Helmets – Agree
Imagine your head coming to a sudden stop on the black top!
Your brain tissue, soft and delicate, slams against the inside of your skull. It turns to mush, causing massive bleeding. If the impact is severe, the skull splits open and your brain is squeezed through the hole. Death is the usual result.
The mammoth energy of a sudden stop converts to brain-mashing force. A good helmet absorbs the energy of the impact. The brain and skull are protected against the violent forces of head hitting the road. Without a helmet, even a relatively minor accident such as falling from a slow speed spill, has enough force to cause serious injury .
Modern helmets undergo rigorous research and testing to provide the best possible protection. A firm but flexible outer shell acts as a shield. It's designed to crack or break, but not shatter. The inner shell is constructed of a foamy material that absorbs energy by compressing and distorting. Wouldn't you rather your helmet crack and compress? Preferable to your head.
Never use a helmet that's been in an accident. Even if you can't see any damage, there may be micro-cracks or flaws in the construction. In the event of another blow, the helmet may simply let go, and cause injury that might otherwise not occur.
How much do you value your head? Is it worth much? If not, don't spend much on a helmet.
Your head is priceless! Don't go cheap on a helmet. Motorcycles are fabulous fun and a great life-style choice.
Think safe. Wear a helmet.
