Twas the night before ChristmasYour teen daughter all snug in her bed. With visions of expensive gifts dancing in her head.Little does she know her stocking is stuffed fullOf the best little surprises money can buy tooYou're sure to be the hero in your teenage daughter's eyeJust as she is the twinkle in yours all the year threw
The Christmas stocking has always been one of my daughter's favorite gifts. She calls it her "Merry Stocking of year round necessities, accessories and special treats.
On Christmas morning it is the very first thing she heads for weaving her way in and out of the gifts covering the living room floor. In past years she has by passed a Barbie doll house, a kitchen play set, a Barbie jeep, and even a stereo system without even noticing them to get to her hand-made with love by mom sparkly, gem and bead decorated stocking. That waits for her on the kitchen table. She unwraps the "overflow" presents that are neatly positioned in the shape of a heart with her stocking sitting in the middle. Then one by one she slowly opens each little gift inside the stocking and investigates it or samples it.
I have found so many items for her stocking over the years. I didn't think stuffing her stocking could possible get any better after all the years of finding the cutest little girl things to put in it. The first year she was a teenage I dreaded the idea of finding affordable, little gifts that would match up to her stocking expectations. I was amazingly surprised at how much I did find that year and the past two years.
Her stocking is not complete without the necessities as she calls them. Which include small bottles of body wash, bubble bath, body lotion, hand lotion, bath salts, and bath confetti and bath bombs.
Then her accessories which are broken down in to groups cosmetics being the first lip gloss, light colored lip sticks, eye liner pencils (come in every shade), a trio of her favorite color eye shadows, nail polish, nail polish remover pads, make up remover, and a purse size perfume or two. A travelSize manicure set.The second group of accessories is for the hair a teenage girl must have "perfect" hair before leaving the house you know because they would just die if anyone saw them with hat head, bed head or a single hair out of place. To help with the hair ordeal I get her barrettes, headbands, colored hair bands, fashionable hair pieces and of course a brush and compact mirror.
Moving on to the third group of accessories is the small jewelry collection. Trust me when I say a teenage girl can never have enough jewelry. Earrings, bracelets, necklaces, rings, including rings for the toes, and what ever area of the body you have allowed them to pierce. Besides you always want them to have the "latest" style whether it is a charm ID bracelet or thread earrings.
The special treats include her favorite candy; a bag of chocolate covered espresso beans and a half a dozen of the expensive raspberry cream filled chocolates from the candy shop. Any kind of candy that your daughter likes is acceptable, if she has a bag of M&M's everyday I would try to find her something a little more extravagant.
Other special treats I include are geared towards her interests; a paperback novel, puzzle book, pretty pens, little nick knack decorations for her room, a poster of her favorite celebrity, small amount gift cards for Starbucks, Cool Beans, Taco Bell and other places her and her friends enjoy going.
Each year I include replacements of items she uses everyday such as; earphones for her I-Pod, a case for her cell phone along with a few charms and stickers, a new wallet, small photo frames and albums, a special key chain that tells her how much I love her without actually saying it. Usually only the two of us know the story behind the key chain.
Wrapping it up with one special gift that she really wanted. Either a hard to find DVD, CD or out of print book. One year she got a season pass to the local amusement park, another year she got a few magazine subscriptions for her two favorite teen magazines and last year she received a full year of acting classes and this year she is getting the gift of learning to drive, she is enrolled in a driving school for three months of twice a week driving lessons at the end of the three months we hope she will be a licensed driver.
The most important thing that you can put in your teens stocking is SOCKS yes I said socks the cute little ones with the designs (not tube socks!) you buy them at every store that sells clothing or girl accessories such as jewelry, the dollar stores even carry socks. For some reason socks have been the "it" item for girls for the past few years now and it's still going strong this year.
