ALT-6 Gift Ideas for 6 9 Year old Boys
Right now everything we do is about Star Wars. My son (who is 6) is addicted to everything Star Wars and his Christmas list reflects his obsession. It is funny to me that my son has an interest in something that was around in my day. In fact, my mother-in-law saved all of my husband's Star Wars action figures and my son now plays with them all. But I digress, since my Christmas will be filled with Star Wars and "the galaxy's" paraphernalia here are my picks for gifts that I have researched or already bought.
1. Any of the Lego Star Wars sets. There are so many and most boys this age love to not only create the actual set on the box but also see what other creations come from the Legos. The instructions on how to create each item is clearly mapped out by Legos and my husband and son have fun putting the pieces together.
2. Of course, a new lightsabor is a must for any young "Jedi". The lightsabors range in cost from $19 to $199 but these swords are fun for outdoor play and really spark fun games among the neighborhood children. Do not drop a lightsabor in a pool (it will no longer light)!
3. A new version of an old favorite sparks my next suggestion. The Battleship Game (score, a direct hit) has been revamped to use ships from the Star Wars Galaxy. This game is almost better than the original because now only one person can play or two. The sound effects are fun and the game, other than the new ships, is very similar to the old favorite.
4. For anyone that owns a Playstation 2 (or 3) the Lego Star Wars game is a must. This year the money people have come out with The Complete Saga, which is all of the Lego Star Wars games combined. This means that if you have all of them like we do you are still going to have to buy the Complete Saga because the commercials come on during Saturday morning Cartoons.
5. Finally, no true Star Wars fan is complete without the character figurines to play with. The figurines come in all different sizes and can be hidden in backpacks and lunchboxes to go to school (Mom is always the last to know). The thing that I do love about the figurines is that playing with them sparks so many stories and ideas. The imagination goes into overdrive to create an X-Wing Fighter out of a box or pillow.
For any Star Wars lover, these are the items to get this Christmas. Most boys Ages 6 and up also love the movies and the DVD's can be purchased as gifts as well. I am still a little hesitant to allow my 6 year old to view the movies but I am sure we will give in at some point. My one hope is that we do not tire of the Star Wars phenomenon before the Holidays (I don't think that is possible). My other hope is that we can tear my husband away from the toys long enough to let our son play with them.
