ALT-5 Realistic new Years Resolutions for a better Life
With the start of a new year, just about everyone makes resolutions. Whether spoken out loud and shared with others, or decided in silence in private, a new year gives new hope to people around the globe. They vouch that this year is going to be different from last year, or the year before that and they make resolutions for a better life to be achieved in the months ahead.
Losing Weight
Losing weight is high on just about everyone’s list. Maybe you too can stand to lose a few pounds, but knowing this and achieving weight loss are two different things. Perhaps you have tried and failed diets. Maybe you have become a member of a gym, but have lost your nerve setting foot in one. The best solution to stick to a resolution is to get a friend to go with you. Ideally someone who is also a little overweight, that way you can keep an eye on each other and support each other when temptation comes knocking. Be realistic in your expectations though. Going from a size 14 to a size 7 might be a little hard to accomplish, but you could slim down to a size 12 or even a size 10.
Change of Diet
Along with the resolution to lose weight or firming up around the middle section comes the plan to eat healthier. We all know that rich foods are high in cholesterol, but they are so delicious we often ignore the diet when faced with a succulent steak, veggies with creamy sauces or chocolate oozing desserts. Again, don’t do it alone. Get someone who is willing to go on a diet with you, but in addition go talk to a dietitian. A professional will be able to inform you about the daily dose of vitamins and minerals you need and in which foods to find them. Starving yourself is not going to do anyone any good, but eating healthy you might actually come to enjoy.
Alcohol Free
A very commendable New Year’s resolution. Not only will cutting out alcohol from your diet benefit your weight and waistline, but your liver will thank you. Your liver cleanses your blood of all harmful substances and alcohol is one of the worst. An addition, cutting out alcohol might improve your family life, your job performance and your driving. Not only will you no longer have to worry about driving under the influence, you might become a designated driver keeping your passengers, and the road in general, safe.
Investments
If you decided to dip your toe in the stock market, know that this is not for the faint of heart. To successfully invest you will need expert advice. You may have kept on eye on the stock market in the newspaper and have your eye on a few companies, but a financial adviser knows more than you do about investing and will be able to steer you in the right direction.
Love Connection
Perhaps your New Year’s resolution for a better life is to find ‘the one’. Finding a suitable companion might indeed improve your life, but finding Mr. or Miss. Right can be a challenge. Why not make it a little easier on yourself and enlist the help of a professional here too. Matchmaking agencies screen their candidates, reducing the risk of their members wasting their time with people who want different things out of life.
A better life means different things to different people. Some may have made the resolution to get thinner, some may have planned to get fitter and some might want someone to share a life with. Whatever your New Year’s resolution was, be sure to be realistic in your expectations. If you want too much too soon you might end up making the same resolution next year. But should you go off the tracks every now and then, don't despair, just start again where you left off.
