ALT-5 Ideas for Thanksgiving Table Decorations

From 3arf

Thanksgiving is a time of celebration: A time to give thanks and to share our gratitude with all the wonderful people in our lives. What better way is there to accomplish this than a dining table that displays the "thank yous?"

We can let our imaginations run wild!

For example: The word "thanks" is six letters long; the sixth color in a wavelength is violet - if one is looking at it from lowest to highest frequencies (Otherwise, it's red, which has the lowest frequency). I know, I know, it sound too technical all ready. It's not really. Simply attach a purple note to every chair with the dinner guest's name on it, and on the inside handwrite a little note that reads, "'Thanks' has six letters: Violet is the sixth color on a wavelength, and the color with the highest frequency. Today, and everyday, I want you to know how special you are to me and how often I think of you by writing 'thank you' on purple paper"- or something of that nature.

Too mushy? Too "Outer Limits?" Perhaps I "ran" a little too far. Well, no matter, the idea is to give our loved ones something from the heart and made with our own two hands. Like a child's refrigerator art, or a lover's attempt at poetry, it will be remembered for many years to come.

Okay, I'll be a little more normal this time:

One of my favorite ideas is to purchase miniature pumpkins and gourds that are sold at any local supermarket for the holidays. Place three (three is a universal number for luck) medium-size leaves behind each place setting with one of the pumpkins or gourds resting on top (fake leaves are just as nice). Then, attach a small note of thanks to the stems of each with some festive ribbon. Write memories; congratulations for new family members, marriages, or job promotions; draw a cartoon with a message underneath it; paint a small picture with a caption that reads "thanks." Are there children in the family? Let them help. The ideas are endless and so much fun.

Another suggestion is purchasing an array of fall colored ribbon and fabric markers. Cut the ribbon into six-inch lengths and write cute phrases, humorous remarks, or loving sentiments on them with the marker. Then tie an assortment of them around each dinner napkin (cut into longer lengths when tying bows) in lieu of a napkin ring, and place one bundle on each plate.

One more:

Purchase solid fall-colored placemats and, again, fabric markers (Well, don't purchase them again if you all ready have them - I'm referring to mentioning it, yet, another time). Write your little phrases of thanks around the border of each placemat. Add a few drawn or iron-on leaves and/or pumpkins. Everyone will be too busy reading to notice the messy kitchen - just kidding.

Fun, fun, fun ideas for showing our gratitude to the ones we love.

I find that gifts from the heart pull at a person's heartstrings much more than anything purchased on-line or in the local mass merchandiser's inventory.

So, go crazy just not too crazy.
