ALT-5 How to Winterize your Car
Winter can be quite harsh on cars, it is therefore essential for you to know how to winterize your car. You car should be prepared for the bad weather experienced in winter. Below are some tips that will help you winterize your car.
1. Take the car for servicing when it is due, never postpone servicing your car once it hits the 30,000 miles. If you postpone the servicing you may end up paying a high price when it breaks down.
2. Work on the cooling system by flushing it and replacing the coolant. This will keep your care in top notch condition.
3. Replacing the windshield wipers is also something you must do before winter sets in. Add the windshield washer fluid to the windshield washer reservoir instead of using water which will freeze during winter.
4. Servicing your car battery is also a wise thing to do. After servicing the battery, check to see how long it can hold charge. If your battery is old, replace it with a new one and have a fully functioning battery in winter.
5.Checking the air pressure in your tiresis the next thing that you must do. You should know that air contracts when its cold which cam cause your tires to have a low air pressure as the temperature starts to drop.
Make sure that your spare tire is in a good condition and also check to see if you have the right tools that you need for changing a car tire in your boot.
7. Check the car lighting system to make sure that all the lights are working, replace the bulbs that are faulty and have an efficient car lighting system. You should also check to see that the heater and defroster are working well.
8. Make sure that you keep your gas tank full as a way of preventing moisture from freezing in the gasoline tubes.
9. Check all your windows and doors to make sure that they are functioning properly. You don't want to have a non functional window or door during the winter season.
10. Check all the systems of the car to make sure that every system is in a good working condition, ready to face winter.
11. Have an emergency kit for winter and put it in the boot. The emergency kit should have the following items.
A warm blanket, extra winter boots,gloves,an ice scraper, a snow shovel, a flashlight with extra batteries and bulbs and a kitty litter to use for traction in case you get stuck in the snow while driving.
