ALT-5 How to Honor but not Indulge your Child on Hisher Birthday

From 3arf

You want your child to feel special, but not delve into some selfish, bratty, present-hungry feeding frenzy.

Allow them the little things, such as the first slice of birthday cake, and going first in all, if any, of the birthday games.

Is it adorable that your child wants the most expensive and luxurious things in life? Absolutely. Is it appropriate for you to take a second mortgage on the house just to get all of that for them. Absolutely not.

Remember to honor them as you love them. Be lenient where you'd usually be strict but don't go overboard and change your whole routine. Children are impressionable. If you let them get away with too much just because it's their birthday they may begin to expect that kind of behavior from you every single year.

Make sure to award them with AT LEAST one of their starred choices on their birthday list, because when it comes down to it the best part of a child's birthday party is seeing how excited they get over the wrapping paper, and what's inside and the candles and it being all about them.

So to re-cap. Children are precious and the years go by quicker each and every year. So just do whatever is going to make them smile. If you need to indulge on this one day, so be it.
