ALT-5 Gift Ideas for Movie Buffs
Is a DVD enough for your beloved movie buff? Forgive the rhyme, but if you have a movie buff in your gift giving circle, it can be very fun to shop for him or her. As a serious movie buff myself, I have provided my wife with countless opportunities to give a thoughtful and creative gift. I write this in homage to her excellent gift-giving skills.
Job number one is that you have to know what kind of movies your movie buff likes. Do they like action, comedy, romance, classics or even foreign? How do you find this out? Check out their collection. Or, hey, you can even ask them, but be sure to do that on the sly. You don't want to let on what you are doing. Once armed with the knowledge of what they like, you are ready to shop!
So it a DVD enough for the movie buff? No. It is too simple and requires little thought and care. One idea for when you know what movie they like best: you can get them a T-shirt printed with a favorite line from that movie. You could also try to get a shirt or mug printed with one of the indelible images from the favorite flick. The point is, get some creative paraphernalia from your movie buff's favorite movie. Along the same lines- you can order a Universal Studios jacket or even a director's chair with their name on it. Anything to show them that they are special and that their interests are important to you.
Another idea is to go ahead and get them a DVD, but not to stop there. Go and get a ticket for a movie that is opening around the movie buff's birthday or Christmas. Get it for opening night, or close to. Then, using a razor (carefully!) slice open the plastic on the new DVD and slide the movie ticket into the plastic sleeve. This will touch your movie buff's cinematic heart due to your thoughtfulness, effort and creativity.
A final idea is to set aside an evening for a movie themed dinner and date. You can eat out or in, but you should dress as characters from one of the movie buff's favorite films. It takes a little while to get warmed up to the role-play, but this ends up being hilarious as you both emulate these characters. Then either go to a movie or watch one at home, with all the treats you can muster! Hold hands, cuddle, have a night of it.
With thought and care, your movie buff will feel loved and appreciated. So let out all the stops and go cinematic!
