ALT-4 Ways to Increase your Trucks Gas Mileage

From 3arf

As the price of gas is ever increasing we all need ways to save gas and money. There are many ways to save gas that are very simple and quite easy to do; it just takes time to remember to do them. Here is my essential checklist on how to save gas:

1. Be Gentle! There is probably no easier way to reduce your gas usage than being gentle on the pedals. If you accelerate and decelerate gently your truck uses less gas. Seriously, what is the need for slamming the pedals all the time anyway? By being gentle you will also add to the lifespan of your pedals; the last thing you need is a maintenance bill for breaking your pedals...

2. Keep It Maintained! On the topic of maintenance; keep your truck well maintained. Do you walk well when you've got a broken leg? Of course you don't so don't expect your truck to function to its full potential with electrical problems.

3. Don't Turn Left! For US readers this is a great idea. Avoid turning left because it is quicker to turn right and you will travel less distance. Less distance and less waiting at junctions equals better gas optimization.

4. Combine Trips! Why do two trips when you can do one? If you can do fewer journeys you should. It's all about saving the gas.

5. Plan Your Route! It may take those extra few minutes before you set off but it could save you a few dollars when you would otherwise be stopped, engine running, wondering where to go next. If you know where you are going there will be less stoppages and more gas!

6. Use The Correct Type Of Gas!Another bit of personification; imagine your truck is a child. Would you give them a soda just minutes before they play their college football team's final game? No, I didn't think so. In that case, don't do that to your truck. By filling up with the gas recommended by the manufacturer you're not only maintaining your engine but preparing your truck by giving it the correct fuel to allow it to reach its full potential.

7. Turn Your Engine Off!If you get stuck in traffic for twenty minutes don't sit there and complain with the engine running, therefore wasting gas; sit there and complain with the engine off and then laugh it off because you have the nous to save your gas when it's not needed.

8. Walk!Walking is yet another very simple trick but one that is usually forgotten. If you have to get some food don't use a drive-in. By parking up and going inside the store you save on fuel and get that little bit of exercise to help get rid of that beer gut you've grown attached to over years of using drive-ins!

9. Reduce Drag!

Take any unneeded items out of your truck, leave them at home. It will reduce your vehicle's mass therefore decreasing drag and allowing you the better air resistance that will save you fuel.

10. Open Your Windows! Finally, although opening your windows increases drag and fuel consumption it is a much better alternative to air conditioning which burns even more fuel!

After doing all this you can sleep safe in the knowledge you have saved money and done your little bit to help the environment by saving that extra bit of gas.
