ALT-4 Tips for Selecting the right Profession for you
I believe there's a profession in the world for all of us - one that's almost tailor made for each of us. We may not know it, we may not believe it, but it's true.
The only stumbling block is that many of us don't persevere in searching for it. Instead we get a job that pays well enough for us to survive on, and that's that. I'm sure you've heard of all those people who enter a career when they leave school or college, and stay in that career for years, working their way up and - to the outside world at least - becoming very successful.
And then they turn around at the age of forty or fifty and wonder what they did with the last twenty or thirty years.
A profession is something we're cut out to do - born to do. We all have an innate skill inside us that makes us happy when we do it. For some it's writing; for some it's creating something; for others it's tinkering around with cars or computers; for more still it's helping others in some way.
Grab a sheet of paper and brainstorm for a couple of hours when you know you won't be disturbed. What do you love to do? What do you wish you could do 'if only you had the time?'
There are no permanent barriers to the profession that's meant for us - only challenges and stumbling blocks. If we persevere in finding that profession and moving towards it, it will become ours, even if it takes several years to get there.
Make a list of your skills. Write down everything you're good at. Writing. Baking cakes. Selling stuff on eBay. Fixing cars. Everything you're good at that you enjoy doing.
In there somewhere is your profession - what you were born to do.
The trick to finding it is to remain open minded and take your time. It may come to you straightaway, or it may take several days or even weeks. But you'll know when you've found it.
And when you have, you can begin to take steps towards attaining it.
