ALT-4 The Significance of different Rose Colors
Roses are perhaps one of the most classic and complex of all flowers. Nothing shows your heart more clearly than fresh roses, but you should be careful which color roses you choose, as you might just be saying something you didn't realize! With Valentine's Day fast approaching, it's time for a quick lesson in what rose color really means...
Red. Red roses are known throughout the world as an expression of deep and unfaltering love. They represent passion as well as commitment, the blood boiling fervor of "new love" as well as the strong and unwavering strength of mature love. It is clear, considering the above, why "red roses" are a time honored tradition in way of expressing ones love on Valentine's Day, Anniversary's, and other romantic occasions.
Purple. Purple roses are also a very viable candidate for Valentine's Day bouquets if you want to express the fact that you have fallen in love with someone "at first sight". These roses, typically in the soft violet shade, represent passion mixed with the shy innocence of feeling the pierce of Cupid's arrow.
Coral/Orange. If you want to signify a burning desire that is raging so deeply you can scarcely think straight, the coral (or orange) rose is for you. Perhaps it's because of the likeness to fire itself, but whatever the reason, roses of this color have been long used to symbolize animalistic passion and desire.
Yellow. Sometimes Valentine's Day is a time to celebrate friendship and happiness, and that's where the yellow rose comes in. If you want to tell a close friend how much they mean to you, and how happy you are to have them in your life, there is no better way than a bright bouquet of yellow roses!
Pink. Pink roses have a tradition that is almost as classic as their red cousins...pink roses symbolize gratitude, appreciation and the feminine spirit. If you're looking for a way to tell your mother or your grandmother how much they mean to you on Valentine's Day, a bouquet of pink roses should do the trick. In addition, these roses show a sophistication that makes them the perfect way to say "thank you" to someone who has done something special or thoughtful for you.
Light Pink. Light pink roses show sympathy...often times seen in funeral displays or sympathy bouquets.
White. The symbol of purity, innocence and strength, the white rose is often seen in Matrimonial settings.
Black Rose. While there is not actually a rose that comes in the color "black", there is a shade of red rose called "Black Magic" that is about as close as one can get. Some florists also take fresh white roses, dry them and then dye them black. The significance of the "black rose" has long been a point of debate, with some weighing in that they represent "death" and thus are a tool that some people use to show hate and disgust, and an entirely opposing group who believe that the black rose symbolizes "rebirth", as in rebirth from addiction, change, new beginnings, etc. Still, probably something to stay away from if you are trying to say "I love you"!
There is really no more classic way to express feelings than by giving a beautiful bouquet of flowers, just make sure that you are saying what you really want to say with the flower that you choose!
