ALT-4 Should School Buses have and Enforce Seat Belt use – Yes

From 3arf

School buses should most definitely have seat belts and enforce the use of them for everyone. There are so many laws now on wearing seat belts and driver safety. Kids should definitely have to wear seat belts on the bus.

There are fines if you are not wearing a seat belt in your automobile. Why should the kids not be safe while going to and from school? Some would wonder why the government never enforced a law a long time ago for school buses to have seat belts on them. There should be random checks on the seat belts also. Just like adults get pulled over now for not having seat belts on; so should the school buses if there are any children on the bus without their seat belts on.

Also, adults now in many states get fines for not wearing their seat belts, so should the school bus driver. Maybe if the school bus driver knows they will get a fine, they will be more likely to enforce the seat belt rule and not let kids goof around on the bus anymore. Children's lives are put in the bus driver's hands, but should they also have some added safety.

Laws say kids need to be in car seats until they are eight years old, but there are no seat belts on school buses? It doesn't make any sense. Kids start school when they are five or six. That is still under the age where they should be in a booster seat by law. So why is our government and our schools not making the buses safer for the children.

Technically by law, those students that are under the age of eight, should have a booster seat and a seat belt while the children older than eight years of age should have at least a seat belt. The school bus is like a large over-sized car. So why should it not come with all the safety standards that a car would have; seat belts and even maybe air bags?

What if there were an accident? The likeliness of children getting hurt is extremely high since they are not even buckled in. Kids could get thrown from their seats, or from the bus. If they had seat belts on, it would at least lower the risk of them getting ejected from their seat, or from the bus.

All around it would be safer for the children and possibly put the parents a little more at ease sending their children on the school bus. Not all parents have the time to take their children to school every day. They would feel better knowing the school and the bus drivers are taking every precaution possible to keep their children as safe as possible. In conclusion, seat belts should be mandatory on school buses everywhere.
