ALT-4 Motorcyclists should always Wear Helmets – Disagree
You can jump on the internet and find all kinds of so called facts and statistics on accidents involving motorcycle riders. Most do not indicate if the rider had a helmet on or not. The power-that-be just want to scare you with big numbers. Try finding stats on accidents that turned fatal BECAUSE of the helmet. They are out there, they exist, but the people who think they should tell us what to do aka the Government, don't tell you about those statistics.
Let's take a look at what the Government DOES tell us. In 1996, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA)issued a statement that said 2300 motorcyclists died and 58,000 were injured on highways in the United States. They don't say how many wore helmets. They just shout out these big numbers.
Let's assume that this is accurate information. Now let's do some math. Hmmm....ok I come up with a fatality rate of less than 4%. That means that the survival rate is 96%.
This is just a small sample of the useless information that circulates from the government.
I ride a motorcycle, I do not wear a helmet. I will not ride through states that have helmet laws. It's my head and if I don't want to put a strap under my chin that can crack my neck in two, I am not going to do it. Plain and simple.
Would you drive your car with a noose around your neck that is attached to your air bag? That's about how much sense all these "safety laws" make.
My son is named after his favorite uncle that died BECAUSE HE HAD A SEAT BELT ON and couldn't get it off in time when his car hit a tree and EXPLODED. The passenger in his car, who was thrown from the vehicle survived. A few cuts and bruises but HE IS NOT DEAD.
If I am in a motorcycle crash that is so bad that it paralyzes my body but leaves my brain intact, I don't want to live. I don't want to be a burden on my children.
I have told my children that everyone dies. No one lives forever. If I die in a motorcycle accident then at least I had the pleasure of going out doing something I enjoy.
I smoke cigarettes and I ride a motorcycle. According to the Government, it's a wonder I am still alive.
Give me a break!
