ALT-4 How to Start a Career in Karaoke
Are you thinking about starting your own Karaoke business? Then it is important that you continue reading this article so that you will be aware of just what it takes to be successful in the world of Karaoke. There are a few considerations you must make before deciding to enter the exciting world of a Karaoke Jockey, or KJ for short. The top issues include cost of equipment and accessories, your personality, and perseverance.
The first issue on the minds of most people is that of, "How much will it cost me?" Well, that all depends on how much you are willing to spend, but remember whatever you invest into your business will be what you can expect to get out of it. The one major purchase you will make will be that of the equipment. Now, everyone has seen the Karaoke machines on sale at Wal-Mart, which cost about a hundred bucks. This is not going to do the job if you plan to market yourself on a professional basis. Therefore, a decent complete Karaoke system will cost anywhere from $1000.00 USD. It is possible to get them cheaper used, but I would not recommend that, you might just wind up purchasing some other person's machine that has reached its end. This price does not include the songs themselves. The disk can run anywhere from $10.00 $40.00 USD each. Each disk holds anywhere from 10 20 songs. Most KJs have a minimum of three thousand songs and have a large variety; yes, even the songs and styles that you do not like should be included. As you can see this can get very expensive real fast and it may take some time before the system has paid for itself, but eventually it will, and how fast that happens is up to you.
On to the next issue, and that is your personality. We must sometimes understand that we are all not cut out to be the center of attention as is required when running a Karaoke show. It is your job to ensure that the customers are having an enjoyable time. It seems so easy when you see other KJs doing it. They are laughing and having fun, but you must realize that it is work. If you are easily agitated, or annoyed, then a Karaoke business is probably not for you. Remember, on many occasions your jobs are going to take place in clubs, bars, and bowling alleys, these particular venues include people that are drinking and sometimes a bit too much. You will be dealing with these individuals face to face. Anyone that has done this for some time can tell you that it is sometimes funny, sometimes very, very annoying, and sometimes it can get down right scary.
The bottom line is that, after all of your investments and after all, of your time spent, Karaoke can be a very fun and rewarding business. As you start out, you may start with only one system and yourself, but eventually you may be able to reinvest into your business and purchase more machines and more employees that will work for you. It is the same as any business; you will get out of it what you put into it.
