Baby showers are always fun to attend. The worst part about going to things like this is what kind of gift to take. Baby showers are a little easier to buy for when it is a persons first child. A little more difficult, but still not really hard to buy for if it is for an additional child to the family.
Clothes. Clothes are always a great gift to get the new baby. If you know what gender the baby is, you can choose accordingly. If you don't know what gender the baby is, there are plenty of neutrals out there that you can buy. Size newborn is ok to buy. They baby is definitely going to need some outfits when he is born. Be careful with these though. Newborns grow fast and clothes don't seem to last very long. If you are going to buy more than one outfit, I suggest buying only one of them for the newborn stage. Buy the other clothes in 3+ month sizes. This way when baby hits a growth spurt and mom and dad don't realize it, they will have backup clothes to fit baby.
Receiving blankets. You can never have enough of these. This is especially true if you have a child that spits up a lot or somehow manages to soak his diapers in record times. At first a new mom or dad may think they don't need a lot of receiving blankets, but they will soon know why.
Diapers and wipes. This is another item that new parents can never have enough of. A new baby goes through both diapers and wipes a lot faster than you would expect. It seems like you are changing a newborns diaper every ten minutes. Sometimes you are. Wipes go quickly too, because inexperienced parents use a lot of them. They have a harder time getting a baby clean then does someone that has changed thousands of diapers.
Stroller, Car seat, High Chair. Things like this can be expensive and new parents don't always have the money to buy these things right away. Check with the new parents before you buy one of these to make sure they don't already have them, or someone else isn't already buying them.
Accessories for the bedroom. New babies don't have much of anything when they are born. A new baby could use a mobile, side table lamp, crib sheets, or stuffed animals.
Baby gifts can be fun to shop for. If you can't think of something, look at the gift registry mom and dad have provided if they have provided one, or just walk around the store for a while. You can find a great gift for just about any budget you have.
