ALT-4 Great Christmas Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Seniors

From 3arf

Christmas shopping is just around the corner.   Seniors can be a delight to shop for because it's nice to see a twinkle in their eye when you've delighted them.  Aren't we all children at heart regardless of our age? So what better way is there to brighten a senior's Christmas than to stuff their stocking with little goodies? If you know your senior well, i.e. a relative, I recommend you put in some traditional gifts as well as new ones. What do I mean by traditional gifts? Perhaps your senior traditionally has received some Old Spice soap, or for the ladies - lavender soap. Next, embellish the stocking with something you'll know they'll enjoy such as a DVD of Frank Sinatra's greatest hits - after all, who doesn't like his music even today?

Many seniors have a 'sweet tooth'. If your senior is originally from a different country, stop by the local import shop for suggestions of what they may have enjoyed as a child. My mother always loved 'wine gums' from England, and Laura Secord chocolates from Canada. However, she was diagnosed with diabetes a few years ago, and therefore some traditions have to change. You may also want to take into consideration the present health of your senior prior to making food purchases. Instead of candy, you may want to add a bag of cashews or Macadamia nuts.

A box of their favorite tea or coffee from a 'posh' coffee shop is always a good idea. Also, include toiletries such as a new toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, moisturizer etc. A book and a bookmark also goes over well.

If your senior has a hobby such as painting, include some new paint brushes. If they love taking pictures, be sure to stick some new film in their stocking. If it's something like needlepoint, I would purchase a gift certificate to their favorite hobby store. My mother has always loved to shop at Walmart and my father use to love Home Depot; these are also great places to obtain gift certificates from.

Keep in mind that no matter what you put into their stocking, they are going to have a smile on their face at the site of the stocking Christmas morning. And, if you are fortunate enough to catch a peek of them opening their stocking, you may even see the little girl or boy come out in your senior :)

Merry Christmas!
