ALT-3 What to do if you Receive Inappropriate Advances from your Boss

From 3arf

To tell or not to tell, that is the question. This is one of the most hardest dealings you have on a job, whether male or female. Any inappropriate advance from your boss should not be tolerated at any time, but there are times you contemplate the possibility of losing your job due to letting someone know of the behavior of another.

Being in a lower position in a job does not mean you are less of a person or cannot handle your job. Being treated as if you are lower does mean your job is harder to handle. So, what do you do if you are being inappropriately approached by your boss? First, I would find a friend I could trust, such as a pastor or deacon in your church to pray with. Find an organization in your local town that is trained to deal with these situations.

I had a boss at one time that expected more from me than just my job. I worked a man's job in a mechanic shop, and he made very inappropriate advances to me. I did not feel I could trust anyone to tell. I continued to work there because I was a single mom and no other means of income. I would have handled things differently if I was wiser to the laws concerning this issue.

I have since learned there are organizations to deal with these kinds of people. You should not feel "cornered" in your job. If you have been inappropriately approached by either a male or female boss, please do your research for your area and find someone that deals with this type of situations.

There will be someone you can go to and remedy the situation. All you have to do is ask. You may be surprised how many people that work with you that are going through the same thing, and often with the same person. If you feel comfortable with approaching the person that makes you feel threatened, please take someone else along with you as a witness to the conversation. Go over this person's head and confide in them. You may not be the only person that has a complaint. If the higher person doesn't do anything, call the law and make out papers for harassment. No business wants that kind of reputation stirring around.

You will find most owners bending over backwards to accomadate your complaint and find a solution. There is no worse reputation than to have your name associated with bad business ethics. It will be dealt with. Remember, you are the innocent one. Even if you lose your job, God will take care of you and protect you. You may open the door for others to walk through that have been feeling the same way for a long time. Be a hero to yourself and possibly someone else.
