ALT-3 Kids Activities for Valentines Day

From 3arf

My son's favorite holiday, besides Christmas, is Valentines Day. Since pre-school, we have had a Valentines Day party. Every year he wants to invite his whole class. This year he is in first grade, and he still wants to invite his entire class. Being the mean mom that I am, I only allow five guests.

Two weeks before the party, we make Valentines cards for the family. Zac makes special cards for his grandmothers. He makes a hand print on the card and writes sweet messages to Meme, and grandma. Things change up a bit when he gets to his brother and sister's card. Things suddenly turn from sweet and kind to gross and disgusting.

With cutouts from magazines to include monster faces, fake poop, and vomit, his cards to Sissy and Big brother are complete. Where he finds this stuff in a magazine, I will never know.

His final card-making chore is complete when he puts his final additions on the Aunts and Uncles cards. These cards always include pictures of his favorite things. Dinosaurs, robots, cars, Pokemon, snakes, bugs, and reptiles are adorned to the cards. Finally, the cards are complete.

With Sunday approaching, we prepare for his Valentine Day party. We get all the supplies we need for the crafts, games and prizes, and then we plan the party.

Upon arrival, the kids make a candy necklace. With the use of plastic wrap, colored ribbon, and bite sized Snickers and Milky Way's, the project is underway. The kids arrange the candy on the 3-foot long plastic wrap, 2 inches apart. They, then roll it up, and tie a ribbon between each piece. It is then tied at the ends and worn as a necklace until it is time to go home.

Next is game time. We play many games and give away many prizes. Here are a few of the games we play.

Heart Toss

This is a fun game played with heart shaped beanbags, found at novelty stores. The kids line up and toss the beanbags into a bucket about ten feet away. A point is given each time they make the bucket. The person with the most points wins a prize.

Heart Hunt

Similar to an Easter egg hunt, eraser hearts with numbers written on them are hidden around the yard. Once they are all found, the numbers are added up to equal the amount of prizes they will receive. If a guest does not find an eraser, there is a grab bag full of prizes for them as well.

Chopstick Heartache

Using chopsticks, the children have to transfer as many candy hearts that they can into another bowl, with a time limit of 30 seconds. The person with the most hearts wins a prize.

In between the games, we break for lunch, which always include pizza and hot dogs. For dessert heart shape cookies, of course.

I hope some of these games and crafts will give you ideas for your own Valentines Day bash. Have fun and happy partying.
