ALT-2 Why Valentines Day is not for everyone

From 3arf

Valentine's day is just one of those days that, if you don't have a spouse or partner to share with, you will try to avoid this day and it's events like the plague. The day it self represents hugs, kisses and sharing close moments with someone special to you. So when you aren't one of the girls that gets a beautiful bouquet of flowers delivered or a box of candy at the least, well you get down and a little bit depressed. Having a cute Missy in the office who happens to be the newlywed also, doesn't make it any easier to escape the moments of the “happy” day. Between all the I love you calls and the gifts, you want to roll your eyes in disgust.

There are a lot of people around the globe that are not into celebrating Valentine's Day, for one reason or another. Some may just not want to celebrate it the way it has become in the last few years with all the commercialism brought to it. It is more intended to be a day to celebrate affairs of the heart and spend time with the one you love.

There are also the people that do not want to participate, in the money, gifts, and glitz of the whole event, but they may still enjoy some quiet time with their special someone. For some it could just be a matter of the type of religion they practice. Going overboard in gifts and all the financial marketing, as it is today, may just be too much for some folks to deal with.

The main reasons certain people do not choose to participate in or celebrate Valentine's day, is “one” is a lonely number, when you are surrounded by a group of other people that have someone to share the moment with. Then when you look around and there isn’t a person standing next to you, to share the day's events, especially what this one represents, it probably makes a person grumpy.

To say the least, grumpy people are not fun to be around and the grump is feeling left out and awkward. When moments like these happen you tend to shy away from the next invitation to a similar event. Unless you stick it out and go again, you may meet someone and not feel left out or not a part of the group's activities.

Maybe you just don't do holidays and celebrate things like this. Some men like to consider themselves to rugged and manly to buy flowers and be sweet. But Valentine's Day, only happens once a year and if your lady is good to you all the rest of the year, than one day is not too much to suffer.
