ALT-2 Why Couples go to Las Vegas to get Married
Every year, hundreds and thousands of couples flock to Las Vegas to get married in the absence of all the pomp and circumstance of a more formal wedding in their home town. And countless others get halfway through their wedding planning process – if that – before they start to say things like “Las Vegas is not sounding half bad to me at this point”. Why? It’s an attractive option. While weddings are a lot of fun, they are a ridiculous amount of work and you wind up spending way more money than you ever wanted to. All of that, and the day is gone in a blur and all you have are pictures to remember it by. The no muss, no fuss option of getting married with just the two of you in Las Vegas often seems like a way to avoid all of the nonsense.
And in a way, it is. When you are getting married in Las Vegas, everything will be on your terms. It is more casual, far less expensive and more intimate. But at the same time, you have to be ok with letting go of the fantasy wedding that you may have dreamed of as a kid. If this sort of thing is not important to you, and you have never wanted that big fancy fairy tale wedding, then maybe Las Vegas is right up your alley.
Lots of people are not into the pomp and circumstance of the formal wedding. It feels too stuffy for them and they have no interest in spending the equivalent of a down payment for a house on a party that will last approximately 5 hours and then become a distant memory. And these people certainly have a point. It is more than a little outrageous what weddings cost nowadays.
Beyond the cost, there is also the stress. The planning every last detail, the centerpieces, the flowers, the dresses, the menu – it can become exhausting and overwhelming fairly quickly. And these things take time to plan. The average wedding planning is roughly one year. Some people simply have no interest in spending this amount of time and energy to plan a party that is more for their guests than it is for themselves.
Many couples don’t want to wait that long either. They would just assume get married immediately. After all, when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you want the rest of your life to start right now.
