ALT-2 When to Quit your Job
While people tend to stay in the same job for years nobody wants to be stuck in a rut. It is important to know when to quit and try something new. Listed below are some indications that it may be time to quit your job.
1. When You Are Not Enjoying It
If you are coming to work every day and counting down the hours until when you can leave this is not the right job for you. You do not have to quit straight away but this should be an indication that you need to start looking for something that you do enjoy.
2. When You Need a Bigger Challenge
You may like your job but it might be too easy for you. A lot of people stay in the same job because they are creatures of comfort. Others seek challenges and new adventures. You need to figure out which one of these categories you fit into. If you feel you can offer more, now is the time to find something that fulfills your needs.
3. When You Are Underpaid or Under Appreciated
If you are underpaid there is a company out there that will pay you what you are worth - and they will appreciate what you do for them. Do not feel that you are stuck in a bad situation.
4. When You Find a Better Opportunity
You may love your job but there may be a better job out there. It could offer you higher pay, more career advancement opportunities or be something that you have always wanted to do.
5. When Your Rights Are Violated
If something inappropriate has happened at your work you may want to consider leaving the job. This could be your manager talking to you in a threatening manner or something similar. In these situations you should file a complaint and see how it turns out. Sometimes it will be difficult to return to work after an incident has occurred. While it is never advisable to run away from your problems some situations can simply be too unpleasant to return to. Also there are jobs out there where you will get the respect you deserve.
There are lots of reasons why you may want to leave your job. Often one of these situations will need to occur before you do anything about it.
