Buying it for someone who is not a good friend will backfire because for one reason you do not know what the person likes. Homemade food gifts are great when you know the person but when it is someone who is just an acquaintance, they will most likely throw it away because they do not know whether your home is clean or not. You may be extremely clean but the person you are giving the gift to does not know that you are clean.
Clothes are a gift that is hard to get right. It is best to avoid buying clothes as a holiday gift because you might buy something that is offensive such as an extra large shirt for someone who just needs a large. The person could get offended feeling like you think they are larger than they are. People’s clothing styles vary so much that it is also hard to find a clothing gift that fits the person. Even if you know the person well it is hard to get it right and best to avoid buying clothes as a gift.
Underwear is definitely a gift that should not be purchased as a holiday gift. Underwear is very personal and unless you are intimate with the person, it is extremely inappropriate to buy underwear for someone unless it is an intimate partner.
Unless you know the person well, it is best to avoid buying alcohol. The person you are giving to might not drink alcohol so the gift will not be used.
Unless the person requests a pet or you know that he or she wants one, a pet is one of the major gifts that you should not buy as a holiday gift. Even if a person loves animals, he or she might not want a pet. Pets require a lot of love and care, it is important to know the pet will end up in a loving home where it will be truly appreciated.
Although it is true that it is the thought that counts, it is important to find a gift that will be used and enjoyed by the person you are giving it to.
