ALT-2 Ways to tell you are Ready for a new Career
Many people feel they want to leave their job and start afresh by embarking upon a new career. Taking such a leap of faith can be difficult, especially for individuals who are not entirely certain it is the right move for them to make. Understanding whether they are ready to take the plunge and find a new profession, or should sit tight, is important before thinking of handing in notice at their place of work. There are several different ways people can tell if they are ready for a new career.
Ability is greater than the current post requires
Sometimes it is easy to muddle along in a job that does not stretch personal abilities or intellect. However, sticking in such a position can lead to boredom and mean people do not live up to their potential. If a job asks little of them, and an employee of lesser abilities could easily do it, it may be time for them to consider moving up the career ladder.
Finding a job less than stimulating
A career that once filled someone with hope and excitement, but now is humdrum, may have outlived its purpose. In order to achieve success in employment individuals need to feel optimistic and enthusiastic about their career choice. If it does not make them happy anymore, adopting another career might be a wise decision.
Insufficient pay
If people want their standard of living to rise, but their job is never likely to pay enough to level with economic expectations, a different career path may be on the cards.
Expectations
Although some job requirements are wrong for a person because they expect too little, at other times it is the other way around and job expectations are too much. Burnout and stress can be a direct result of following a career that is not the right choice.
Subconsciously checking out alternatives
Often, people know subconsciously that a job is not right for them before their conscious mind becomes alert to the fact. They may find themselves checking out alternative positions, or gazing longingly at a complete change of direction and daydreaming. Daydreaming about wish fulfillment can be one way an individual’s brain paves the way for its owner to step out of their comfort zone and begin a new project.
Individuals will know that they are ready for a new career if they have itchy feet and the career they currently have has lost its appeal. If a job is no longer exciting, wages are too low, or people constantly visualize themselves doing something completely new, they are probably ready for a new job.
