ALT-2 Unique Birthday Gifts for Friends

From 3arf

Some friends might be easy to shop for on their birthday, others might be more difficult. The question sometimes is, what can you give a person that seems to have everything? Unfortunately, there are times when a birthday will roll around and find you short on cash. The solution to these problems is simple: give your friend something unusual and fun.

Create a video

What makes this idea different is that you make the video with a theme such as a music video with you and your friends as the band! No instruments, you and your friends make all of the sounds. Another theme could be a play that you and friends put on for the video camera. If you use the video camera on your phone, then send it to the birthday person, viaMMS, along with an invitation to dinner. If you use a digital camera, you can invite the birthday person over to watch it and then give them aburnedcopy to take home. A video like this can be something they can cherish and watch down the road to relive that fun day.

Reverse dinner

This one can be interesting and fun. Make the birthday person a nice dinner complete with decorated cake and candles. Decorate the table nicely, and then serve the cake first! Of course, you may want to advise the lucky recipient to save room for dinner. Serve the main course, then the salad/appetizers. It sounds wacky and that is exactly the point!

True surprise gifts

This one can be a lot of fun for everyone. Hide the birthday gifts in spots where the birthday person will be sure to find them. For example: hide one in the cabinet where they keep their favorite coffee mug/drinking glass. Hide another one in the closet or sock drawer. Hide another gift in their jacket pocket. The idea is to give them a surprise gift every time they turn around on their special day.

Scavenger hunt

The twist to this idea is in the clues and where those clues take the birthday person. Each clue will lead them to a fun activity that they enjoy. The activity must be completed before they can "find" the next clue. For example: the first clue is taped to the coffee maker. This clue will instruct them to put on active wear when they get dressed. When they go to get dressed, the next clue is stuck in their sock drawer. This clue will instruct them to drive to your house. When they arrive at your door, they will see the next clue taped to it. This clue will instruct them to go with you to their favorite basketball court for a game of hoops (you provide the ball). When you finish the game, and go to leave, the next clue will be taped to the passenger car door window. This clue will instruct them to go with you to the juice bar where they will find the rest of your mutual friends waiting. The next clue will be taped to their chair. You get the idea from here. Obviously, you will have to plan this out ahead of time with your other friends. The idea is to lead the birthday person through a day of their favorite activities with a grand finale birthday dinner/party.

In an age where everyone has "seen it", "done it" and "already has it", coming up with auniquebirthday gift can seem like an impossible task. Try thinking outside of the proverbial box. Get creative and make a video or take the birthday person on a scavenger hunt. The idea is to give your friend the best gift of all: a great birthday.
