ALT-2 Trucking is a Thankless Job
Trucking is a thankless job.I agree with that, but so what,I don't recall asking for anyones approval. As a very small child I remember an uncle in Denver who drove trucks and I remember thinking, how cool! All through childhood I recall thinking the same way about him,but I don't ever recall wanting to be a truck driver.Last week I turned 60 years old and yes I was on the road.I don't remember when I decided to drive trucks but I've spent most of my adult life behind the wheel.I have never regretted my decision to drive trucks for a living, and by the way, stay married for over 30 years and raise 3 great kids.Well probably need to give my wife the credit there. There are people every where, some quite rude and some just so unbelievably nice, and you run into them all at one time or another but the job is really what you make of it.I keep a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. It really does keep the job much easier.I'll tell you a secret, tell you where the thanks are, ever see the sun set behind the snow covered Rockies?See the sun rise in the desert?I have, and I'll tell you something else, several years ago about 2 in the morning I was in west Texas heading to ElPaso and I saw from west to east the space shuttle burning through the atmosphere. From ElPaso to Florida took some thing like 26 minutes. That was the most awesome thing I have ever seen. Now for the real thanks...I remember as a kid seeing the trucks on the road and just pumping my arm like crazy trying to get the driver to blow that air horn.Well the kids still do it today,it's against the law to blow that horn just for kicks, but sometimes...when the folks are aware of what the kids are doing and there aren't any Bears around.....give that old horn a blast!Thankless job.....yea but the look on their faces is all the thanks I ever need.
