From 3arf

Coveted in gardens spread about the globe, spanning the world wide is the brilliant, lovely favored rose. It symbolizes life; adorned with beauty, yet cursed by thorns with the ability to draw blood. The epitome of all flosculus (Latin for flower), the rose is one of the most recognizable and revered by all that have gazed upon it, or touched the silky smoothness of it's petals. The alluring aroma alerts our senses with a promise of heavenly bliss, and the beauty of the flower beholds us in trances that we tend indulge in.

John Boyle O'Reilly (a poet and novelist of Irish descent) once was quoted as saying "The red rose whispers of passion, And the white rose breathes of love; O, the red rose is a falcon, And the white rose is a dove." And indeed, this holds true. Of the many, many hues that this delicate flower affords us with, they all contain varied, note-worthy connotations that are attached to them. These differences are often misinterpreted, yet should be simple to identify.

~Gold and yellow hued roses represent friendships. They have been given at times of gladness, and welcome, or as a promise of good luck in a new endeavor. They typically mean that you care and have often been doled out for things like graduations and or new beginnings, such as a new job, or to a new mother. It's lack of passion color suggest that it is a friendly limited message, and is not meant to decipher any feelings of deep love.

~Peach presents itself in a cheerful tone. A content intent, if you will. These are given at times of gratitude and thank you's. Sincerity, purity and innocence cover the various meanings of the modest pale peach gem. It is said to be ideal to hand out among friends within social atmospheres.

~Orange colored roses represent energy, and pride. Send these bright blooms to your teen that successfully passed that tough test, to let them know you are proud of their accomplishments. It is also a fascination flower, to be sent to the person that is irresistible and desired by you.

~Black blossoms are a bit morbid looking, and also represent sorrow, or goodbye, farewell. they can also mean the death of something old, like a habit. Their fairytale-esque hue makes them beguiling to us, and they are often found mixed with other, more appealing colors for display purposes. They also signify courage and resistance, and have been used during Irish wars.

~Red and deep red, of course are hotly known for their passion and deep love. The deeper the color, the more depth of feelings involved with them. These are the typical Valentines gifts, and the most popular of colors. they are synonymous with "I love you", and a deep feeling of need and respect.

~Purple colored bloomers mean magnetism, and enchantment, and let us not omit regaling, or majestic. They are the love at first sight hinters, and the magical messengers. they suggest opulence, yet do not promise permanent affection.

~Pink roses come in a few different shades. Lighter pinks are for the gentleness inside, the joy and warmth, and stand for admiration and harmony. Darker pinks are graceful, and elegant, sweetness and refinement. A bright pink, however are meant to show appreciation and recognition.

~White suggests purity and honor, heaven, bliss, wonder. Used in Queen Victoria's wedding these are a semblance of eternal love. Untarnished and untainted, representative of Virginity.

~Blue roses and Turquoise are beautiful! Blue shades us with the meanings of mystery, or that of the unobtainable, to send to those that are just beyond our reach. Perfect to be taken from the hands of a secret admirer, or a lover that is not meant to be held. Turquoise is meant for calmness, or rejuvenation, representing self-respect and abundance or fertility (not to be confused with blue). It stands for richness and bounty.

This suggests that the old adage "A rose is a rose is a rose..." is a bit untrue, does it not? It seems that purchasing a fabulous rose is a bit more complicated than one would think. It does ring true that a rose is a rose is a beautiful one. They are enthralling to glance upon, and we should indeed, not only stop and smell the roses, but ponder their coloring and the meanings behind these hues as well.
