ALT-2 Thanksgiving
Buying all of the things that are usually included for a really nice Thanksgiving Holiday dinner is really expensive these days. As it happens, all of those food items cost more this year, 2010, than they did last year. As a matter of fact, food prices continue to rise because the price of crude oil is slowly but surely increasing as time passes.
One way to save or reduce the money that you plan to spend for your Thanksgiving Holiday dinner is to purchase less food. I must admit that after eating the same kind of meal two or more times I really have had enough of turkey until the following year.
Instead of paying for the entire dinner yourself you could invite other people to share the meal if they make a food contribution, such as buy and bring some of the side dishes like peas, corn, potatoes, etc. They can also make a dollar amount contribution for the enjoyment of a home cooked meal that you are willing to make for each of them.
Then again, you can be a guest of some other person and simply bring a food item, to be included with the entire meal. Some people bring a bottle of wine, a salad, pie or some such complimentary food item for the enjoyment of everyone. The point is that each person shares a huge meal at a reduced cost to everyone.
It is sad but true that some people must go a food shelter or some such place where a Thanksgiving Holiday dinner is provided to all who attend. There are tens of thousands of homeless people who rely on the charity of others for their survival and we must all do what we can to help those unfortunate people.
Be that as it may, if you can still afford to feed yourself but cannot afford a huge Thanksgiving Holiday dinner you can buy and cook less expensive food items for the meal. It should go without saying that you will also use less energy to cook such a smaller meal, even if you do not have any leftovers for another meal or two.
As such, you can make a chicken dinner with all of the trimmings, or bake a small ham or beef or pork roast. You can also buy several frozen turkey dinners for you and your family and simply heat them in your oven or microwave cooker. Something is far better than nothing, if you so desire to celebrate the harvest by sharing what once was a huge meal with your friends and family.
