There may be various reasons why you’re considering quitting your job. You may be under-compensated for the services you offer or it may just be a lack of passion for your current job. Whatever the reason, before deciding quitting your job to pursue your passion, make sure to recognize it’s the right time to quit your job.
The following are signs it’s time to quit your job.
- 1 Lack of passion
Lack of passion is the number one reason to quit your job. If you have no passion for your job, you lack the motivation to wake up every morning and go to work; you lack the motivation to excel at your job; you lack the motivation to take the extra mile and become a recognized expert in your field. On the contrary, being passionate about your job can give you wings and the power to take every necessary step for a successful career. Lack of passion makes your job feel like a task. Being passionate makes your job feel like a hobby.
- 2 No room for growth
You may be satisfied with what you’re doing in the company, but you feel that there is no room for growth. Your skills are undermined and your supervisor doesn’t think you are worth a promotion or bigger projects. Although your job leads to greater sales and you definitely contribute to increased profitability, you are stuck, almost stagnating, to the same position for years, waiting to be appreciated for your hard work. It may be because the company doesn’t want to invest in more resources or because your supervisor is not capable of acknowledging your efforts. Nevertheless, you feel miserable and you are probably right to considering quitting this job.
- 3 Negative working environment
Getting along with co-workers is particularly important because these are the people you see more than your friends and family. Your co-workers are the people that you spend minimum 40 hours a week with, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year. This makes 1920 hours per year or 240 days, which is 65.8% of the year! If you’re not getting along with them, it means that the working environment is negative and unproductive. If you have tried to talk it out and it hasn’t worked, it seems like the right time to quit your job and offer to yourself the opportunity to excel in a new, positive working environment.

If the company is without leadership and people are confused about their tasks and responsibilities, it is a strong indication that you should quit your job. Lack of leadership and effective management creates confusion and company culture is less likely to evolve quickly. Chaos and misunderstandings that remain unsolved both create stress and dissatisfaction, and even if you like your job per se, it is quite impossible to function without organization and proper management.
- 5 Financial issues
If you are under-compensated for the job you do, you should consider quitting your job. It doesn’t matter why you don’t get the money you deserve – if it is a matter of a general financial and economic downturn or a matter of bad financial management. You do your job and you should get paid for it. Especially, if the company performs well and is profitable and this is not reflected in your paycheck, you should look for a new job that will allow you to lead a comfortable life and pay your bills. Even if you like your job and you find pleasure in doing it, sooner or later you will feel miserable and upset for not getting paid regularly or enough and for getting yourself into debt.
Quitting your job can be frustrating, but, on the other hand, your job should not be an everyday burden. You should feel passionate about what you’re doing and use it as a means to find your path in life and become a fulfilled person.
