ALT-2 Should Hummers be Outlawed for Road Travel – No
A stereotype has been generated by the "hate" that people seem to have against these cars. From what I have noticed, people tend to follow the crowd, if one person points at a Hummer and says, "Hummer bad! Bad emissions! Ban Hummer!" the other people will naturally follow, the "Bandwagon" persuasion techniques. People just follow others, when criticism is pointed towards one company, people will follow that, and they won't have to take the blame for being wrong. Hummer is one of the most controversial issues in carbon emissions for vehicles. But it doesn't make sense when you put it this way, look at a muscle car, I am going to use a Dodge Challenger as an example, it shares the same fuel economy with the Dodge Magnum Srt-8 and the Dodge Charger Srt-8 at 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. Ironically, the H3 has better mileage than those cars, with 14 mpg city, but still 18 mpg highway. Even the Cadillac Escalade gets 12 mpg city and 19 highway. So why is Hummer hated? Why don't people look at other vehicles and criticize them? I guess life just isn't fair.
The only reasons I have ever heard of that have pulled cars of the market were defects and safety concerns. But to take a car off the market because it has a low fuel economy is just ridiculous and over reacting, the most ridiculous solution that I can think of that can be used to regulate the usage of the cars would be to ban cars under a certain fuel economy on certain roads, like they do with RV's. Not only is a more reasonable solution, but it will not be directed towards one company that makes cars just like every other company.
I just don't see why people are against the Hummer, not only is it safer due to its large size and mass, it is a powerful and fun car to drive, it can be used to tow heavy trailers and drive off-road. And it is also not a bad looking car, it appeals to well to those who want a cool car that rides high and looks similar to the H1s in the army and it seems to have turned into a status symbol for the wealthy, or just a way to show off to your friends. People who buy this car buy it for many ridiculous reasons, just like the reasons we buy fast and good-looking sports cars that make our palms sweat when accelerating onto the highway from 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds. Honestly, I am not a fan of the monster, but I have nothing against it and I don't feel like I just want to ram into one of the things just to get it off the road for a while to save the world from some carbon emissions.
