ALT-2 Mothers Day on a Budget Simple Gifts for Mom
Parents understand when we have financial troubles. If they can help us they try to. They want us to manage our money the best we can. In most cases, our parents would rather we not spend our money on them. The fact that we are doing well on our own is gift enough to most parents.
As a mother, myself, I know the value of spending the day with my child. It makes me feel more important if I have my child with me. I feel like I am a part of their life and they appreciate me enough to spend this day with me. If possible, get all mom's kids together for this day. Try to put other things to the side and spend the whole day with your mother. This will mean more than you could ever know.
Make your mom something special. You can buy a simple wooden fixture and paint it. You can create a door hanger or a birdhouse. You can paint her a welcome sign or a dream catcher. You can even make her a card. You are never too old for something from the heart. Every year, I make my mom a handprint card. I am much too old for this but my mother gets a kick out of it. She displays them on the fridge for the whole world to see.
Make your mom promises in the form of coupons. Be sure to do what you say you will on the card. You can award mom to a day of house cleaning, yard work, or even dinner on you. Give of yourself. This is a great way to help mom out and show her that you love her long after the holiday is over.
Capture a memory for mom to save forever. You can make mom a picture frame with the whole family or the two of you. You can also fix her a scrapbook or her own album. This is a project you may want to get an early start on. The more time you put in it, the better it will be. You may also want to make mom a movie. If you can edit old home movies together, this would be a great idea also.
No matter what you decide to do for mom, do it with a smile. You don't need a holiday to honor your mother for the wonderful beautiful woman that she is. Call her and wish her a happy day, drop her a letter, request her a song on the radio or pick her a bouquet of flowers. (Just make sure you don't pick them from her garden.) Tell mom you love her. Words mean a lot.
