ALT-2 Mothers Day Gifts and Activities to Make Mom Feel Special
After spending years pampering us, cheering us on, supporting us, and fighting for us, our moms deserve all the thanks they can get. If your mom is anything like mine however, she wants nothing for her special day. The best gift you can give is your time. If you want to give a little trinket, here are some thoughtful ideas below.
For little ones, a homemade card of finger painted footprints of hand prints is sure to make mom smile. For preschoolers, help them color noodles and make mom a pretty new necklace or bracelet. Fold up colored paper, and help your child design a book of their favorite activities with mom. If they are too young to write, have them draw pictures.
For grade school kids, let them be creative. If your child has a knack in the kitchen, let her make mom's favorite cookies, or help her bake a cake and get her a decorating kit so she can make it all her own. Encourage your kids to help around the house so mom can relax after work. Nothing says "Happy Mother's Day" like a dish free sink and sparkling floor.
For teens, they've inevitably shared a lot of experiences with mom, so let them pick out a book or a cd, plan a picnic, or make a reservation for a manicure with mom. Let your teens plan a menu and take charge of the kitchen, or have them watch the younger kids so dad can whisk mom away for a magical evening of pampering.
For those of us that are a bit older, think of your best memories of your mother from childhood. If you associate a certain song with your mom, look for concert tickets or search out the old record and write a thoughtful inscription. Take your mom out for a day on the town or enroll the two of you in a pottery class or sign up for salsa lessons. By the time we are in our twenties and thirties our moms just want to spend time with us and be included in our daily lives.
For your wife, make Mother's Day a grand event. This woman carried and cared for your children all the while putting up with you, work and household duties. Take a moment to shine her halo and make her feel not only like a mom, but a woman. The number one complaint from mom's is that they lose a sense of themselves. Between chores, work and childcare, it's easy to feel like a robot. Remind her of who she is and who you are together.
Steal her away for a Romantic evening or a weekend at a bed and breakfast. Send her flowers at the office or stash chocolates for her around the house. Taking time together to reestablish your intimate connection is important. The two of your love is what made her a mother, so never let her forget how precious and special she is.
No matter if you are planning a special day for your wife, or your mother, take time to let her know how important she is. She is irreplaceable.
