ALT-2 Mothers Day Gifts Kids can Make themselves
If it’s not their smiles and laughter which provide moms with bundles of joy and happiness, it’s what their little hands can produce. Hand made gifts take effort and care, and moms are always appreciative of such gifts more so than a bunch of store bought flowers or a box of chocolates.
Thankfully, there are so many lovely gifts that kids can make themselves to show their appreciation and love for the many things mom does. Many of these gift ideas will not only be a nice surprise for mom, but will prove to be enjoyable to the kids while making them.
• Decorated handheld mirror with special beauty note
Moms are beautiful and they need to be told that they are. So what better way of telling mom this than showing a picture of herself with a lovely note that she can always keep?
To make this mirror, you’ll need a flat surfaced hand held mirror. Then some pictures of your choice - which could be flowers from greeting cards or magazines as well as some sequins or beads, some card, glue; a hole punch; clear spray paint; pen; ribbon and some scissors.
Cut your chosen picture and spray it with clear spray paint to give a nice glossy but protective finish. Glue the picture to the back of the mirror and add sequins or beads of your choice. Next, cut out (with adult supervision) a rectangular or even heart shaped piece of card enough to write a little note. Use the hole puncher to punch a hole in the top left corner and tie the card to the mirror with ribbon or add some glue. Now all that is needed is to write the beauty note for mom. You can write anything along the lines of “when you look in the mirror, you will see someone that will always be forever special to me”, or something like the person looking in the mirror is beautiful and special.”
• Decorate a plant pot
Moms love flowers and plants and they always work to brighten the day. So, why not custom decorate a plant pot for mom and then add a nice plant or some flowers?
To decorate a flower pot for mom, you’ll need a flower pot, some paint, pictures of your choice (could be flowers or hearts or even a family picture), glue and a dedicated mood to make something bright and lovely for mom.
First of all, paint the flower pot a base color or a mixture of colors that you know are mom's favorite. Then, while waiting for the paint to dry, cut out (with adult supervision) the chosen pictures which will be stuck around the pot using glue. Once the flower pot is ready, add some fresh soil into the pot and add the nice new plant for mom.
• Puzzle pieces collage of Mom
Mom has many wonderful and unique attributes, like she is caring, loving and patient, so why not let mom know about all of these wonderful characteristics she has with a creative puzzle pieces collage?
To make the puzzle pieces collage you’ll need a nice strong piece of colored (preferably mom’s favorite color) card, this could be an A4 sized piece. A pen, some glue, some puzzle pieces that are not needed (around seven or more), some acrylic paint, colored pens and thoughts of what makes mom special.
Get the puzzle pieces and turn them over to the cardboard side and paint them in different colors. When each puzzle piece is dry, write on each piece how mom is special. Examples include things like: wipes my tears, fun, smart or always listens to me, is kind and loving. Now get the colored pens and write in the middle of the card “Mom, I love you to pieces.” Then stick the puzzle pieces onto the card.
