ALT-2 Last Minute Valentines Day Ideas

From 3arf

Valentine’s Day can be slightly problematic if you don’t have pre-arranged plans.  Many restaurants book weeks in advance and the more popular romantic destinations become too populated for privacy.

If life is so busy that you didn’t find the time to make Valentine’s Day plans, there are a few last minute ideas to help make this day memorable for you and your date.

When tables at all of the hot restaurant spots are reserved, there’s always the option of serving a romantic meal at home.  If cooking isn’t your thing, make arrangements to pick up a meal at your date’s favorite restaurant an hour or two before the dinner (heat it up in the oven when it’s time to serve).  Some restaurants are set up for food pickup and even have designated parking spots for takeout.  Make sure to call the restaurant at least a day in advance to make sure it offers this option.   Transform your home into a romantic haven with candles, fresh flowers, and china (save the paper plates for everyday use).

After dinner, you may want to take your date for a moonlit drive or do another fun activity such as a horse and carriage ride or go to a concert.  Some churches and community organizations offer free concerts on Valentine’s Day that don’t require pre purchase of tickets.

It can be very romantic to take your date to the location of your very first date.  This may be the zoo, the park, a fast food restaurant, a neighborhood coffee shop, ice cream parlor, or a concert hall.  Since many couples don’t go to fancy restaurants on their first date, chances are this location will not be too crowded and is a good last minute choice.   You will need to make efforts to keep warm if you will be outdoors as the weather on Valentine’s Day is typically chilly.

If you’re looking for casual last minute date ideas, consider going window shopping at the mall, visiting a pet store (and maybe buying your date a new pet!), baking homemade cookies at home, making homemade pizza, watching a video, making homemade Valentine’s Day cards, or getting together with another couple for games.   If you opt for one of these casual outings, make sure your date isn’t expecting or wanting a more romantic evening.

Valentine’s Day can be laden with expectations.  More important than making plans far in advance is creating a fun and meaningful event that your date will enjoy, even if your plans are made at the last minute.
