ALT-2 How to Maximize your Productivity at Work
At work it can often seem that you are working hard all day but that you have nothing to show for your efforts at the end of the day. This is probably because you are not optimizing your productivity. Here are some tips on how you can maximize your productivity at work.
Streamlining
There are often quicker ways to do things and sometimes we complete tasks at work unnecessarily. Analyse your daily work routine and look at whether or not there are tasks that can be removed or if there is a quicker way of doing them.
Technology
Are you making the most of the technology that is available to you? Technology has made fantastic advances that have helped us get more done in a shorter space of time. One problem is that often people are unsure of how to use different aspects of technology to maximize their productivity. Attend a training course or speak to your superior to make sure that you are fully trained to use any equipment, computers or programmes.
Delegate
It is easy to think that there is only you who can do a task. Consider delegating to other people who might be keen to take on more duties, leaving you free to tackle the important things that you need to deal with. However, be careful that you do not overload other people or make them feel like they are just doing the tasks that you don’t like.
Get some sleep
People are more productive at work if they are well rested. People who are tired at work find it difficult to concentrate and then it takes them longer to complete tasks, making them less productive. A good night’s sleep can be the difference between a productive day at work and a non-productive day at work.
Be a good team member
Being productive doesn’t only consist of what you as an individual achieve at work. It is also important to be productive as part of a team. This means having good communication skills, including listening to others, and also learning from colleagues.
Be organised and tidy
Being organised is key. If you are disorganised you will spend a lot of time working out what you should be doing and when. Having a plan of what tasks need to be achieved by when will help you to be more productive at work. Similarly, if you work from a desk, this should be kept tidy to avoid disorganisation and wasting time looking for the relevant information needed to complete a task.
