ALT-2 How to Adapt your Career to a Tough Economy

From 3arf

The economy isn't always going to be rosy and sunny. There are going to be times when the economy is going to laugh at you and tell you to just go home because there isn't any work here. However, you don't have to let a tough economy keep you down and out of work for long. There are ways in which you can keep your job prospects higher than you might realize.

A good way to get a job is to adapt your skills to what people are looking for, or what the market is currently looking for. Businesses change all the time, so you have to be willing to change with it. The stereotype used to be that writers didn't make any money. However, freelance writing was one of the safest industries to be in during the Great Recession.

Why was this? Well, most writing is now done on the Internet as opposed as to in print. This makes it easier for advertisers to post specific ads on websites and provide a steady source of income for businesses. Businesses then passed a portion of this revenue on to writers which provides them with a source of income.

To adapt to this change in the market a person would have to make a couple of key changes. The first change would be that they would have to learn how to best utilize the Internet to draw eyeballs to their writing. Another change is that they would have to adapt to the payment structure in order to make the most money for themselves. It is still not easy to become wealthy off of simply writing, but it is possible with a coherent strategy.

Not everyone is going to be a writer, or make a livable income off of freelance writing, but it is an opportunity to share what you know to make money. It is free to start up and you don't have to go to school, or have a degree, to get started. All you have to do is know how to use a computer and be willing to work hard while you are looking for another job.

So what is the point of all this? Not every job is going to be what you expect it to be. You have to take the skills and knowledge that you have and adapt it to whoever is going to pay you. It might not be the income that you want, or the job you thought you would have, but work is better than no work.
