ALT-2 How does our Career Impact our Personal Life

From 3arf

Your career will have an impact on your personal life depending on your outlook to employment.

Do you;a) Live to workb) Work to live

Living to work is a situation that I believe has to be rebalanced from somewhere. There are only 24 hours in the day and most compulsive workaholics will occupy a great deal of this working. The balance is always going to be weighted towards the career gaols, generally at the expense of life's other experiences.

Working to live, is of course, applying employment purely for the benefit of remuneration. To pay the bills and afford the experiences that life has to offer. Presenting less drive towards career gaols and benefiting from experiences.

The choice here then is plain to see, and should be influenced by aspirations and situation. If you have no other commitment and do not aspire to live life to the full, then ambition in the career is an obvious choice and as a result would not impact on your personal life as that would then be your life.

In the instance of having family or aspirations to do things that are not associated with work, the the later is the obvious choice. It is no longer a matter of fact, it is a necessity. Extended hours at the work place will not only affect you but the family as well.

It is possible to achieve both, but this is only possible if you 'draw a line in the sand' as to your commitment to your employer or indeed your own business. Successful time management and task delegation should ensure a schedule can be maintained.

Therefore, in conclusion, your career and its impact on your life, purely rests in your own personal choices and Psychological makeup. You can either allow it to rule you or you can rule it. But remember, you only have one life, make the most of it.
